Kim Basinger, Alec Baldwin locked in Ireland custody battle, After the now-infamous voice mail message that Alec Baldwin left for his 11-year-old daughter, Ireland, the public feud between Baldwin and his ex-wife, Kim Basinger, has surged into the media. After a family court judge heard a recording of the voice mail rant, in which Alec Baldwin called his daughter a "thoughtless little pig, the 30 Rock star was barred from having any contact with Ireland.
That order will stand in effect until May 4, at which time the judge will decide what sort of contact Alec Baldwin will be allowed to have with his daughter in the long term. TMZ reports that both Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger are planning to be in attendance of that custody hearing, which means an explosive situation between these bitter divorcees could be just around the corner. Just days after the message left by Alec Baldwin on his daughter's voice mail was leaked onto the Internet, Baldwin issued his formal apology on Friday via his personal Web site.
The message, which offered the apology by way of an explanation for his actions, read, "Although I have been told by numerous people not to worry too much, as all parents lose their patience with their kids, I am most saddened that this was released to the media because of what it does to a child." Alec Baldwin then offered his apology to Ireland, as well as to the people around the world who were offended by the voice mail message.
""I'm sorry, as everyone who knows me is aware, for losing my temper with my child. I have been driven to the edge by parental alienation for many years now. You have to go through this to understand. (Although I hope you never do.) I am sorry for what happened. But I am equally sorry that a court order was violated, which had deliberately been put under seal in this case." The Alec Baldwin apology attempts to put things in perspective for those who were unaware of his current legal battles with Kim Basinger over custody of Ireland, with Baldwin directing some of the blame onto Kim Basinger.
Baldwin and Basinger divorced in 2002, and since that time, both Alec and Kim have been locked in a heated custody battle for their 11-year-old daughter, Ireland. Baldwin claims that as a result of the bitter custody battle, which has seen Kim Basinger gain the lion's share of custody over Ireland, Baldwin inappropriately snapped at his daughter. TMZ was the first Web site to carry audio of the conversation, in which Alec Baldwin called his daughter, "a rude, thoughtless little pig." The rant also contained several references to Kim Basinger, as Baldwin screamed,
"I don't give a damn that you're 12-years-old or 11-years-old, or a child, or that your mother is a thoughtless pain in the ass who doesn't care about what you do." Alec Baldwin addressed his custody battle with Kim Basinger in his apology, as Baldwin said, "In such public cases, your opponents attempt to take a picture of you on your worst day and insist that this is who you are as a person. Outside the doors of divorce court,
I have friends, I have respect from people I work with and I have a normal relationship with my daughter. All of that is threatened whenever one enters a court room." Since the leaking of the voice mail recording, Vicki Greene, the attorney for Alec Baldwin, was quoted by ABC News as saying she has filed a Superior Court order on Friday, "to determine how the tape got leaked and to determine whether actions should be taken against
Kim Basinger, or her attorneys, or Harvey Levin (who runs TMZ.com) and anybody else associated with the leaking of the tape and the violation of the court orders to keep the proceedings closed." Harvey Levin told the Associated Press on Friday that he obtained the tape legally, though he would not reveal his source for the recording. "I'm not going to talk about sources. I'm not going to say who we obtained it from.
We obtained this legally. We discussed it, and felt it was an important story, and published it." Since the recording has been made public, both sides in the Alec Baldwin-Kim Basinger dispute have been spotted in public. While Alec Baldwin has been seen in the Hamptons, Kim Basinger and Ireland were both seen with another man, which reports have claimed is a bodyguard hired by Basinger.
And while Alec Baldwin has been vilified for his outburst aimed at his 11-year-old daughter, chat rooms and messages boards are beginning to show a wave of Basinger backlash, as Basinger has been no stranger to making private information public, which has resulted in a dozen misdemeanor infractions of the custody agreement. In the end, both parents have exhibited some questionable activity in regards to their parenting skills, and while the Alec Baldwin rant is the most recent evidence of the still-simmering hatred between Baldwin and Kim Basinger, it surely will not be the last headline regarding these two parent's power struggle.
